In MS Excel, you can group and ungroup data in a worksheet to better organize and summarize the information. The Subtotal feature can be used to perform calculations, such as SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, etc., on the grouped data.
To group data in Excel:
- Select the cells that you want to group.
- Right-click and choose "Group" from the context menu.
- Choose either "Rows" or "Columns" depending on how you want to group the data.
To ungroup data in Excel:
- Select the cells that you want to ungroup.
- Right-click and choose "Ungroup" from the context menu.
To use the Subtotal feature in Excel:
- Select the data you want to subtotal.
- Go to the "Data" tab on the ribbon.
- In the "Outline" section, click the "Subtotal" button.
- In the Subtotal dialog box, select the calculation you want to perform (e.g. SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, etc.).
- Choose the column to subtotal.
- Check the "Replace current subtotals" option if you want to replace existing subtotals with the new ones.
- Click OK to insert the subtotals.
