Goal Seek Formula in MS Excel
The Goal Seek feature in MS Excel allows you to find the value of a specific cell (the "Set Cell") that will result in a desired outcome in another cell (the "To Value"). It's essentially a reverse calculation where Excel solves for the input value instead of the output. Here's how to use the Goal Seek feature in Excel:
- Set up a formula in a cell that calculates the result you want to find.
- Select the cell that contains the result of the calculation.
- Go to the "Data" tab on the ribbon and click "What-If Analysis" in the "Data Tools" section.
- Choose "Goal Seek."
- In the "Set Cell" box, enter the cell address of the calculation result.
- In the "To Value" box, enter the desired result.
- In the "By Changing Cell" box, enter the cell address of the input value that you want Excel to solve for.
- Click OK.
Note: The Goal Seek feature only works with a single input value. If the formula you want to solve has multiple inputs, you need to solve for each one separately.
