Goal Seek Formula in MS Excel

Goal Seek Formula in MS Excel

The Goal Seek feature in MS Excel allows you to find the value of a specific cell (the "Set Cell") that will result in a desired outcome in another cell (the "To Value"). It's essentially a reverse calculation where Excel solves for the input value instead of the output.

Here's how to use the Goal Seek feature in Excel:
  1. Set up a formula in a cell that calculates the result you want to find.
  2. Select the cell that contains the result of the calculation.
  3. Go to the "Data" tab on the ribbon and click "What-If Analysis" in the "Data Tools" section.
  4. Choose "Goal Seek."
  5. In the "Set Cell" box, enter the cell address of the calculation result.
  6. In the "To Value" box, enter the desired result.
  7. In the "By Changing Cell" box, enter the cell address of the input value that you want Excel to solve for.
  8. Click OK.
Excel will then iterate through different values of the "By Changing Cell" until the "Set Cell" equals the "To Value". The final solution will be displayed in the "By Changing Cell".

Note: The Goal Seek feature only works with a single input value. If the formula you want to solve has multiple inputs, you need to solve for each one separately.
