Edit Menu – Paste Special in Google Sheets

Edit Menu – Paste Special in Google Sheets

The "Paste Special" option in Google Sheets allows you to paste specific formatting or formulas into a sheet, rather than copying everything in the original selection. Here's how to use "Paste Special":
  1. Copy the data you want to paste into a new location in the sheet.
  2. Right-click on the cell where you want to paste the data and select "Paste special".
  3. In the "Paste special" menu, you can choose from several options:
    • "Values": This option will paste only the values from the original selection, without any formatting or formulas.
    • "Formats": This option will paste only the formatting from the original selection, without any values or formulas.
    • "Formulas": This option will paste only the formulas from the original selection, without any values or formatting.
    • "Paste link": This option will create a link to the original selection, so that any changes made to the original data will be reflected in the new location.
    • "Transpose": This option will transpose the rows and columns of the original data, so that the rows become columns and vice versa.
  4. Select the option you want to use and click "OK". The selected data will be pasted into the new location according to the option you selected.
By using the "Paste special" option, you can paste only the information you want from a selection, rather than copying everything. This can be useful when you want to reuse data or formatting in a sheet without duplicating the entire selection.
