Compound Units and Alternate Units in Tally Prime

Compound Unit And Alternate Unit

Tally Prime, the latest version of Tally software, offers various features and functionalities to make accounting and business management easier and efficient. One of the notable features is the support for compound units and alternate units, which are essential for businesses dealing with multiple units of measurement and conversions.

Compound Units:

Compound units are units of measurement that consist of two or more basic units, such as meter per second (m/s), kilogram per cubic meter (kg/m3), etc. In Tally Prime, compound units can be created and used for various purposes, such as inventory management, sales, purchase, and billing.

To create a compound unit in Tally Prime, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Gateway of Tally.
  2. Click on Inventory Info.
  3. Select Unit of Measure.
  4. Click on Create.
  5. Enter the name of the compound unit, such as m/s, kg/m3, etc.
  6. Select the basic units that make up the compound unit.
  7. Set the conversion factors for each basic unit.
Once the compound unit is created, it can be used in various transactions, such as sales, purchase, and inventory management. For example, if a business deals with both kilograms and grams, it can create a compound unit called kg/g, which would make it easier to convert between the two units.

Alternate Units:

Alternate units are units of measurement that are used as an alternative to the primary unit of measurement for a particular item. For example, a product may have a primary unit of measurement in kilograms, but it can also be sold in grams or pounds. In Tally Prime, alternate units can be created and used for various purposes, such as sales, purchase, and billing.

To create an alternate unit in Tally Prime, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Gateway of Tally.
  2. Click on Inventory Info.
  3. Select Stock Items.
  4. Select the item for which you want to create an alternate unit.
  5. Click on Set Alter Unit.
  6. Enter the name of the alternate unit, such as grams or pounds.
  7. Set the conversion factor for the alternate unit.
Once the alternate unit is created, it can be used in various transactions, such as sales, purchase, and billing. For example, if a product has a primary unit of measurement in kilograms, but it can also be sold in grams, the business can create an alternate unit called grams and set the conversion factor to 1000, which would make it easier to sell the product in smaller quantities.

Conclusion:

Compound units and alternate units are essential features in Tally Prime for businesses dealing with multiple units of measurement and conversions. By creating and using these units, businesses can make their accounting and business management more efficient and accurate. With Tally Prime, creating and using compound units and alternate units is easy and straightforward, which makes it a valuable tool for businesses of all sizes.
